The Adventures of the Immortal Zombie Girl ExcerptChapter 6:
WAKING THE DEAD
“Charlotte… charlotte…” I could hear someone calling my name, but I wasn’t sure if it was real or just in my head. I couldn’t recognize the voice, but my eyesight was starting to fade. I could just barely make out the flag with the big 13 on it, waving in the wind above me. “Charlotte! Charlotte!” Was it Brittany or Freddie? Betta? No. I don’t know who it was. I didn’t really care. I was just in too much pain. I tasted blood in my mouth. “Charlotte…” It was fainter now. I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Before long, things went totally black. I think things stayed that way for a while, but I can’t really be sure how long.
I also remember something about a brightness and a mess of colors and sounds that I couldn’t place. I heard voices again, but I still didn’t recognize them. There was a conversation going on in
Kevin 47 (Poem)A cavalcade of Kevins went riding out one day.
To see who was the fastest, a race was just the way.
Kevin 47 was riding down the street.
He stopped his bike upon the pike to have a bite to eat.
Kevin 46 sped by, giggling with glee.
“You’ll end this race in 2nd place! I just passed 43!”
“What about Kevins 48, 49 and all the rest?”
“Well, they’ll just have to duke it out to place in 3rd, I guess.”
“What about Kevin 41?”
“For him, this race is over, Son!”
“What about Kevin 42?”
“I don’t see him yet, do you?”
“What about Kevin 48?”
“Oh you know him, he’s always late!”
So Kevin 46 fondly bid his clone adieu
And 47 watched him ride off with a laugh or two.
If only Kevin 46 had witnessed his own face
When he reached the finish line to find he didn’t win the race.
“What’s the big idea?” shouted Kevin 46.
“41 through 49 are still stuck
The Bluebird (Poem)I want so desperately to love you
but I fear I never will.
I am just a little bluebird
outside your window on the sill.
Always I am loving you,
peering through the glass so thin,
so close and yet so far away
for you will never let me in.
Outside I sing a song of passion
the music makes you smile, Dear,
but the words, they never reach you
and chirping sounds are all you hear.
The world is full of little bluebirds
singing to each other, too,
but I can’t sing for other bluebirds.
I can only sing for you.
